my idea was feasible but would require welding and some pretty badass box building. if you want a little tiny possibly negligable increase in bass sound remove your rear defroster blower, its got a hole that goes into trunkYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Neither of the bulkheads unbolt.
They are much closer together at the top than at the bottom where they are still less than 12" apart (as I remember). The metal is thin enough that it could easily cut with a jigsaw but remember that you'll have to cut oval holes if you plan on inserting a rigid cylindrical tube through them both.
The area between the two bulkheads isn't sealed as there are a few open spaces, though maybe some of them could be welded and others could be caulked if one is planning to use that space as a sealed enclosure?
I've had more than one new passenger comment on the crappy sound system in my otherwise pristine s50 powered 'vert. It would be very nice if someone had a transparent solution to this problem.

I will take a look but I think in this forum I saw a guy who hacked the back seat side of the metal and installed two subs? I was talking to a guy who mentioned the new slim Kenwood subs?? Anyone know anything about these?
If anyone has pics please post, I'm a visual guy...sigpic

I do not know if it helps, but I have a dual 10" down firing box in my vert. It is a factory JL Audio Box and fits perfectly in the space underneath the convertible top compartment. I know you have 12's but maybe you could build something like that. My 10's can get pretty loud when I crank them.

i still haven't found the heart to bore through the rear bulkhead......yet!!! The vert with the subs behind the rear seat (cabrio) is FPORRO (FRANK) i'm sure he'll be glad to send you pics if you ask him . I think i'll look into the defroster delete that was mentioned earlier... besides my rear defrost is currently inop anyways.

Why not cut holes and then insert a steel tube and weld around each end. This should give back any strength you took out. Then you could run ports through the metal tubes.
I kind of like the idea of mounting it in the bulkhead and using the space as a box, but you would have to close it off and make it the right size. Not to mention, a 10" hole is a bit big.
