It actually isn't that bad. Get to know resin a bit, know how hot to mix it for a quick set, but not so hot that is cracks later (smoking=bad) and dip strips of "Chopped Strand Mat" into the resin and lay them on, basically looking to get 1 solid layer of material so you can pull it out of the car and work on it on a bench.

What I do to prep the areas is to use heavy duct tape, or LOTS of blue masking tape, then heavily coat the area you are gonna do with vaseline or "mold release compound" which is basically car wax. Mine is in fact, Meguires.

Whatever area you are gonna do, you have got to mask heavily with plastic, all around it. Wear gloves and have good ventilation, don't take any chances!

I am gonna be building an entire dashboard this winter with the only part being E30 (hell, BMW at all!) is the heater box. My main goal is to build actual enclosures for the 7" woofers I want up front.

Luke, that dash is going to be insane! Are you just going to find a dash in the yard and mold off that?

So you put the tape down on the carpet and then the plastic over that?

No, you wanna apply your glass directly to the tape, but mask around so you don't get a mess.

Oh ok. But why use the tape instead of the big plastic sheet like he did in his thread?

if you do the plastic, you are gonna get wrinkles and such, hard to get the glass to stick to vertical surfaces as it is, but when the plastic sags, you are gonna have a sloppy mess.

If the glass hardens all wrinkly, first you waste air space. Second, it is gonna be weaker.

              Make sense?

                Yes makes total sense.

Im just excited because Im building a ported enclosure for a 8" sub in my room.

I head you wrote a long time ago just throw it into a .7 cubic foot box with a 4" wide 30" long port. I plugged all that into for WinISD for my driver and it is the best response I got after spending all day messing around in it. Luke you are great at what you do.

What are you making the ported enclosure out of?

I just lay down aluminum foil and blue tape. Shit pulls right off the fiberglass mold after it dries. I've never needed to use any mold release. Most important thing to know is wear a face mask and gloves or you're gonna ave a bad, sticky day.
