My Alalrm...let me show you it

So here is the deal. Having done shitty so-so work in my own cars, but really tidy work in every other car I do, I decided to get a little creative in my car for once.

This is a Scytek Galaxy 5000. Remote Start, Keyless Entry, full alarm. Also installed is a Scytek Window Control Module. 8 relays total, loads of fun to wire.

    Extra features include:

Window roll up on arm or remote start, full roll down while disarmed, vent while armed or if vehicle reaches 100 degrees F.

Illuminated Entry: When unlocking, domelight turns on for either 1 minute or until key is turned on.

Horn Honk: Horn honks while alarm is triggered (very obnoxious, trust me)

Hood Release: Solenoid under hood "Pops" the hood open (not a strong enough solenoid...looking for better than a Civic starter solenoid)

Retained Accessory Power: One of my favorite features! The power for the windows and radio remain on (after use) until the door is opened.

Just like the new cars, right?

Since our cars must have the accessory circuit powered up on remote start (or deal with bullshit from the DIC), I used an additional relay to kill power to the radio while in remote start. This serves 2 purposes. One is that the damn thing won't sit there booming while warming up, and second is that the thing won't run the battery dead because I forgot to open the damn door after I changed my mind about leaving (ask me how I know...)

Fairly soon I will be motorizing the trunk lid using a RV "Entry Step Controller" and a GM power window motor, and losing the trunk latch altogether. I also intend to open and close the sunroof via remote, so even more fun to come! Gotta find a damn solenoid strong enough to pull the hood latch. The Honda one will pop the latch if the hood is open, but not if the hood is closed. Moar Powa!

Here is a quick pic of the installation:

And get that pile of Alpine out of your car? Sure!

Figure this too...if we connect it to the emergency brake, you have a 2 minute "Turbo Timer" too.

The alarm itself is under $100, shipped, prewired (if you want) including the necessary relays.

I gots no video making abilities.

                  Luke,

I always meant to ask you, do you talk to any of the guys at DEI ever? My buddy Ron Hembd is the Technical Director for the Snake Pit at DEI HQ. He's been with them for a few years now, and I know for a while he was in charge of all the call-in support for any installers who had issues. He's a certified Master Installer.

Anyway, he put an alarm in my wife's Mazda 3 that sounds like yours, except hers had a two-way remote with the on-screen functions. I tried to help him install it but pretty much just sat back in awe. There's a ton of work involved with installing that stuff most people never realize. Looks like you had fun!

Hi Tim. No, I don't think I know Ron. I am actually a SD native, spent several years in North County. I left in 1988, when I moved to Portland. Tech Director at the Pit is pretty big news IMO. DEI is the best tech support in the biz, that is for sure.

I would really really like to have a password for the new "Directechs" site...

I do know John Durbin, who is some kind of big shot sales manager at DEI, plus I know Robbie and Joel Pardovitch, Henry Jay and likely as not several others who do/did time at DEI.

My being a retard grunt who actually LIKES to work on cars has slowed me professionally for many many years, plus I have no degree (retard again). One of these days I will need to get out of the trenches and get a real job...

My alarm is convertible to 2 way, but no 2 way is as quick as a one way, plus I absolutely cannot stand the damn beeping, the screens and the shitty battery life. So I use the basic 5 button one way transmitter.

Scytek is an actual manufacturer, having been OE for damn near everyone for years and years, went retail about 4 years ago.

Anyway, apparently I am gonna have to take a picture of the transmitter of this thing, and video the functionality of the stuff.

Lemme see....guys. check back about 8/08, OK?

Yeah, the two way remote was nice for bing able to tell if the car was running or not, but it ate batteries like there was no tomorrow.

You left north county before he started at DEI, then. He was one of the founding members of the Pit and still teaches classes, afaik. He also built their cars for SEMA in 04-06. They didn't have a Pit car this year because he was hooked up with West Coast Customs.

I am shocked by the amount of stuff you guys do, and my hat is off to you.

Looks like a pretty good set up, but boy that is a hell of a lot of relays! I'll probably be calling you to get one of those alarms so I can set it up in my 2002....
