does anyone know how to remove the air bag steering wheel? i looked on the back of it and there are four holes w/ some kind of plugs on them that i can't seem to get off. thanks.

You need to unscrew from the back..or just do what I did and start prying the bitch off. I wasn't thinking when someone told me 4 nuts UNDER the cover so I tried to pry the cover off alittle and had to cut through the supports to get it off.

DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY FIRST OR THAT BITCH COULD BLOW UP IN YOUR FACE !!!

Then just remove the 2 torx screws (I forget the size torx though t15 maybe? )located on the backside of the steering wheel and the air bag will just about fall into your lap at this point.

I've also read on this forum to wait 1/2 hour after disconnecting the battery since the air bag holds a current for a short time.

battery disconnect, then 2 torx screws on the back of the wheel, pull the middle off and unplug it from the wheel, the wheel is the held on by a 22mm nut i believe, make sure your column is locked and take it off, then unlock your column with your key and pull the wheel off, there is another plug you will need to unhook when you take off the wheel.

          hope that helps

I have not heard that before although when I removed mine so I could do a dash swap it was well longer than 30 mintues from the time I started taking apart things to the time I took the wheel off. I will say there is nothing at all about the removal in the Bentley manual. You can also unplug the harness if you drop the bottom part of the steering column panle off. It is the bright orange harness.

you can just uplug the airbag first and then remove the wheel - it doesn't hold a charge.

i can see where the torx screws are but there covered and can't get to them b/c there's some kind of metal cover over them. if i can't do that i'll just try and pry it off.

I have the same metal covering the screws should I drill these out? Will I ruin the torx screws? Any suggestions?

Get a small mirror and look at the back side of the wheel. you will see the torx screws.

There isn't any covering over the two torx screws. They are very close to the steering column plastic covering. It is easier to turn the steering wheel 90 degrees to get them them started backing them out. Only unscrew one half way and start on the other one or they will bind. It is a torx 27.
what you did to this car is like getting a supermodel naked and willing to do anything you please. now here you are faced with ths once in a lifetime opportunity and then you squander it by making her fuck you in the butt with a 24" strap on. you are a sad, silly little boy.

ya. its not the 4 holes on the back of the wheel. there are two torx bolts right next to the column. it only took me like 5 minutes to get mine off.

ant the airbag does hold a charge, but its only for a short while. you should be fine after about 2 minutes of it being unplugged.
