dual 8's in the E30?

Finding a woofer that works well in an infinite baffle setup is kind of rare, since it is so out of fashion these days. Look for a spec called Qtc (AKA Qts)...you want over .5, and a fairly high Fs, about 40 would be great. XMAX over 5mm would be nice too. -
What do you mean by "appropriate woofer"?Yes, except the trunk springs are in the way...so you either have to remove them (dumb as hell) raise the woofer (not exactly attractive) or swap over to hydraulic struts (let me know how that works out, please?) Not bad, if you can find an appropriate woofer...welcome to 1987, basically.Leave a comment:

How about some pics of that box? I do a custom box for a single 12 that eats up a foot of trunk space, but leaves plenty of room.can anyone post a pic of their enclosure for rear 8"? I have a Orion 10" in a ported box in trunk and it takes up a ton of room. I would love to be able to get some 8"s on the deck. Right now the 10" is ported into 2 4" holes in the deck with some memphis audio speakers in the front and rear. Sounds pretty good, but cannot get to spare too easily.
thanks!Leave a comment:

Is it possible to fit an 8" woofer in the rear deck? What do you think of a set up with tweeter in the front, mids in the kick panels and 8" woofers in the rear deck?Leave a comment:

OK, guys, now you have me thinking...
I have a coupe sitting that is gonna be scrapped.
I also have a sawzall.
Seems like having half of the car sitting on a workstand would make that whole fiberglassing thing so much easier....Leave a comment:

I stuck two 8 inch JL's 8w6 (dual voice coil) in rear deck of my 02 with each unit sitting in custom 1/2 inch thick fiberglass enclosure. No loose low end. Sounds tight and defined. Doesn't eat up trunk space too...

I'm running 4x8" Kicker S8c's in the trunk. At first I had them in the Spare tire well (pain for ind. chambers) and wasn't too satisfied with the sound so I went back to the "big" indv. sealed chambers on 3/4 MDF. I lost half of my trunk but I really don't carry alot. I did have to cut a bigger hole on the wall so I could hook up the amp and caps behind the box. With back seat installed I still get very good and tight bass inside.
Even though I never thought of the idea of placing subs in those spaces inside the back panels it would be a good task on how to reinforce the sheet metal so it won't flex.
I think you'd have to find a way to contain the speaker so that the sheet metal was not part of the enclosure. I constantly look at that space as well, but my fiberglassing skills are just now starting to get respectable.Leave a comment:

Aren't the enclosures ported? Just wondering if I'm thinking correctly.Leave a comment:

I have one of the original boxes they came in, so Im just going to make 8 identicle(volume wise) and put that in the trunk.Leave a comment:

You know, those bose woofers are actually pretty good (and I work for their main competetier). They are designed for a ported enclosure though (with tight specs) and will likely blow when taken out of their normal location.Leave a comment:

I have a sealed 12" box sitting that is perfect for a Kappa Perfect 12...fits "perfect" in your car if you have removed the sound deadning material in the trunk...tiny, too.
If you might be interested in either buying the box or measurements, I can supply them.
