    Vert Sub Installation Project

    I love good clean low Hz thump’n bass. However, the structural sheet metal between the trunk and the back seat of my ’90 E30 convertible makes getting good bass a real challenge without giving up the back seat for a big sub cabinet.
    Since life is full of compromises, I decided to give-up a few inches of back seat “knee room” to get some solid bass. My concept is to integrate the sub speaker enclosure into the actual seat. Here is what I want to achieve;
    1) Get good clean tight low-end bass (not the cheap “boomy” stuff)
    2) Keep the back seat usable for short trips (and the ability to use the original back set back whenever I need to).
    3) Maintain the great BMW upholstery look (and also some level of stealth)
    The subs provide decent bass with the “covers” off but it takes a lot of power to make them thump. Here are some photos of the project progress so far. Ignore the lower part of set, recovering it and converting the rest of the interior to black is next weeks project.

    Hey, there's an idea!

    All the 'vert guys whine about no bass...can't say I blame them.

    So what have you built for an enclosure behind those Series 1s?

    Looks great so far, nice looking car too.

      Vert Sub Installation Project

      It is a full air-tight enclosure that locks onto the existing seat back "hooks" and lower bolts with no modifcations.

                Nice.

                I think a detailed writeup with lots of pictures is in order!

                Luke... are you saying vert owners are whiners???? ;-)

                  Great execution. Write up? It seems the backseats are still functional. I don't drive with that many people all the time. And if it looks stock,......baller.

                            Brilliant, and very well executed. Any plans to clean the mdf & staples up, or is there even a need to ever take the covers off?

                              Glad I found this thread...excellent work...my idea was actually to do what you did with the lower seat and build a fiberglass enclosure into the bottom with the sub firing down...looks great!
