Damn, that's some nice work! I'd love to see a more detailed write up of how you did it, or at least more pictures of around the seat, what subs did you use? Box dimensions? That looks like a really damn good idea.

A fiberglass enclosure would definitely provide some flexibility to contour a sub enclosure to the basic seat shape. I was considering using the bottom seat for the enclosure but needed to get as much volume inside the enclosure as possible. If I increased the "height" of the lower seat to get the volume, it would create problems with using the seat belts and would decrease headroom with the convertible top closed. Also, the seat backs don't need to support as much passenger weight. Thats why I ended up going with a replaceable seat back approach.

I have not yet finished recovering the original seat bottom, painting all the MDF and trimming-out the exposed fabric edges on the replacement setback. As soon as I finish I plan to post some additional details of the project.

would the replaceable seat centres be velcro'd in? do they get blown off by the subs?

i have to say that is a very cool and innovative design.

any updates to this sub install? Really unique idea and being a convertible owner myself, this is an interesting thread, more so than the other common vert "how do I install a sub or get more bass" threads...

            :)

Has anyone tried using Aura Bass-shakers? You just bolt them to either the front seats or the floor under the front seats, they work awesome and are fairly cheap.

I put 4 of them in a couch once, ran them off of the sub outs into a tiny little home amp...fun as hell.

I have put several in cars too. No thanks, none for me, man.

wtf do they do? I looked at the website and all I see is a bunch of marketing BS trying to make them sound cool. How do they work? Are they just glorified vibrators?

Yes, just basically a 1 pound weight flapping to the beat.

They definetaly are not like having two 12" subs behind your head, but they give a little bit more feeling to the music.

Plus the women willl love your car.....:giggle:

How about an update?? I have 2 10" subs Im waiting to put in, This looks like just the solution I was hoping to find! How big is the sealed enclosure? How about some pics and specs? You may have just solved the convertible subwoofer issue, we must have answers!
