    Bass for non-audio geezer

My cabrio came with a trunk full of audio electronics installed by the PO and a humongous carpeted box, presumably with a subwoofer inside. I removed the box because I needed the trunk space for groceries, backpacks, fishing rods, coolers, smart-aleck teenage kids & other non-audio stuff like that.

So the radio sounds kind of tinny with no bass speakers. What would be a low-cost way to add a little bass back in, and I mean suitable for an old geezer, not a 19-year old's bass that irritates people at stoplights. Could I just pull the speaker out of the subwoofer box and mount it behind the back seat? On the plywood bulkhead in the trunk with all the electronics? I know nothing of car acoustics, just want something cheap and compact that will work OK.

    Thanks!

Yep - thanks for the link. The pic of the "wack" installation by the PO is about what I had in mind unless directed otherwise. How bad would that sound? Using up a lot of trunk space for audio is not an option.

So. yeah, about that cabby subwoofer....

I am getting ready to begin designing a new box using 2 8" woofers.

If you go out to your cabriolet with a tape measure, it should be no more than 11" from the front wall of the trunk, so completely under the top storage area.

It is gonna be a long time coming, but the thing will sound great, and be reasonably affordable.

Well, OK, not all that affordable, but it will fit wonderfully and sound great.

is there no bass because of a crossover install?

I wish I knew what that meant. I'm a sewer engineer & only need to know that you-know-what rolls downhill. To me, electricity and magic are pretty much the same thing.

Seriously, all the audio was installed by the PO. The leads that previously went to the subwoofer box are still available for use, as is the speaker still resting inside said box in a corner of my garage.
