    Optima Red Top

I just put one in my car and holy shit did it transform everything. I was powering my 600w amp off what i believe may have been my original battery. I doubt a battery could have lasted 17 years so i assume the PO had it replaced at BMW because it was a completely plain black battery. I believe its possible it was the same battery my car came with in 1991.

So after cleaning up my battery tray and putting the red top in, it feels like my car starts 10x as good, idles twice as good. Has more HP, stereo sounds better. My engine seems quieter, according to the g/f. I never thought a battery would be

Number one thing with an Optima is dont ever kill it. you know, like when you leave the lights on for 3 days or something. They like to always be charged, and don't like being totally dead. I learned the hard way.

I had an Optima take a shit in my 91is, It was horrible f-in smelt like rotten eggs, I have a felling it was because I had a minor battery draw and a 2000w system...

Make sure you don't have a battery draw!

I never knew that a voltage storage device would add HP. Think I could just get a pimp battery cover for a few extra ponies?

optima battery are over rated. the red tops are junk if you have any kinda stereo work done. the best battery for BMW other than OEM is an Interstate battery. period.

if you periodacally put them on a charger to keep them "topped off" they will last longer too. just make sure you put it on a trickle charge. they don't like to take 120amp charges.

When charging a red top, or especially a yellow top, have a standard battery in parallel if the Optima is totally dead. They have such low ESR that they trick the charger into thinking that they are already charged.

My red top rocks my system just fine, but if I am beating on the stereo with wipers, heater, lights, etc. on, I doa trickle charge like once a week, or the stock alternator won't keep up.

Wal-mart doesn't test battieries when they return them they just return them to the vendor, or throw them out. What I did was, I went to Wal-mart and asked if they had any batteries laying around that they didn't need. The guy directed me to a skid in the shop where they put the returns. He said that people buy batteries if their car isn't working properly and then return them and say they're fucked up or something, when it was actually their alternator or some shit like that. So I went to the skid and there were 3 optima red tops sitting there, I grabbed the 3 and an interstate battery and brought it home. 2 of the red tops worked and the interstate one. I sold one red top for 100$ put the other in my 325 and gave my brother the interstate for his rx-7.

Pretty good deal if you ask me.
