Oh no, hell no, George is far more valuable than me!

Who the hell is gonna make all the GIFs?

I should have clarified that part. I have a woman locally who will build stuff like this for me (assembly ONLY, she only knows how to solder) and does a beautiful job, plus is reliable, for $10/hr.

So, Andrew, how the fuck did you make that diagram? That is awesome, even though it is wrong. You MUST use 2 relays per window.

    Here is the pinouts needed:

    85: +12V (ignition switched)
86: Ground (from eE36 low current switch)
    30: To window motor
    87a: Ground
87: +12V, high current (ignition switched or not, doesn't matter)

No diodes or tricky shit needed. Simply use E36 low current switches, they have a total of 4 wires. 1 is +12V, used to light the LED only, 1 is ground, the other 2 are output, which need to run the relays.

The E36 switches I have do not have harnesses. I am gonna be on a MASSIVE hunt for E30 switches (dead ones) to chop up to make plugs, and E36 (or whatever else uses the same plug) harnesses.

So 4 relays and 2 switches are all that is really needed.

    Luke

Instead of using 4 relays, you might be able to use 2 double pole relays. That would keep the parts count down.

No, because DPDT relays are single trigger, thus 1 window would go up and down at the same time, or both up/down.

SPST. Simple "rest on ground" voltage reversal.

        You fucking engineer, you!

Yea, it would need to be a double-pole, double-throw, three-position relay. Like image b. Or do it the way you are thinking. I'm just "throwing" it out there.

Luke, I drew the diagram in AutoCAD.

Why would I need 2 relays per window? Just to clarify, my diagram was for the whole single-switch-to-roll-two-windows-up/down thing, not what you are making.

I suppose you could throw in a few more relays to fix the shorting issue George and I were talking about, but diodes would be a lot simpler.

Wait, how the hell would that be simpler?

1 window, 1 direction, 1 relay. Easy as it gets.

I think he means easier to assemble/mass produce - not easier to draw/create. If you were just doing a few, then yea, just throw relays at it till it works. But if you wanted to build 100 of them....well...

                  Ask me how I know.

The circuit breaker popped up on my yesterday. Now I'd like to know why the printed image on the circuit breaker is worn away on every E30 I've seen...

Oh, and only the "windows disable switch" that has red on the sides when you pop the switch out is a circuit breaker. The ones with a solid black button is merely a pointless switch.
