I was thinking the same. I made mine from the pocket alone w/fiberglass and they sound great but had I seen these, I would have used them to angle my midbass a little more.

      5.25's in doors

This thread inspired me to move my speakers from the stock location to the door cards. They are actualy firing at me and not my ankles, how novel. I may have even picked up some HP from this mod too, idk.

I did replace my vapor barrier with VB2 damping pad and installed speaker baffles too. I'm sure it helped with some mid-bass, but my doors now sound like my e46 when I close them; with a nice THUNK.

Sorry, no pictures. I did have to cut metal, but there was plenty of room for the 5.25's to fit and be supported by the door frame. I bought the damping material from www.parts-express.com along with the foam baffles. Once the metal and door cards were cut and speaker wire routed through the door, I applied the damping pad. It is sticky-backed and easy to apply. I ended up using one and a quarter sheets per door. I purchased the car kit and had plenty left over. I cut the speaker hole and fit the foam baffle in, stuck the wire in the baffle and hung the door card. I painted the speaker rings with the same vinyl paint I used on my carpet. I think it blends well. Fit the speakers and thats it. The screws for the speaker rings are mostly in the door cards, but a couple hit metal. They are supported well.

If you wanna get really silly about it, cut some MDF panels, mount them inside a large cutout inside the door skin, cut your door panels (door cards?) then mark adn cut the MDF.

Now re-attach the MDF and cover the whole damn mess with some kind of nitrile based sound damping material, then mount speaker.

Personally, I can cut holes, run wires and mount speakers in an hour or so. It would take me all damn day to do it the way I just described, but the sound quality increase would be about 5%, maybe.

Those 5.25's sound 100X better in the doors, I bet!

              Hey luke-

I talked to a guy in an audio place who was a real smug douche. He highly criticized my decision to door mount my speakers because they weren't close enough to the tweeters. He said I'm losing mid bass by door mounting and my tweeters won't phase because they're too far from my mids. Any truth to any of thses ideas?

So he thinks the stock tweeter is to far from the door, but is OK with having the mid in the kickpanel?

                Dork city.

Yes, it is not perfect, cars are always a compromise. Midbass is HUGELY compromised being in the stock location, as it is such a tiny airspace, made worse by using a large driver.

Wonder what your douche thinks of my locations?

He was a tool - and I figured he was wrong but he kept throwing his experience in my face. He was trying to get my to buy a $2000 set of focals and mount them in the kick panels.

Whoa - I dig those pods. I would have chosen a more attractive HU though.

See I was thinking along the same lines as jordan, although he's more talented with most all materials that I am.

I'd like to get the 6.5's lower down and the 4 up around where he has his 6.5. Should work out pretty good I would think. I have a guy who does custom fiberglass stuff so he's going to help me out. Maybe even get it into a carbon look with an overlay.

I prefer them floating on the door than what Jordan did... looks clunky. JMO... plus he's a douche, so I'm sure that factors into my opinion a little bit...

I do agree its a bit bulky, but i'd place the 4 higher which would be much more shallow at that same location, then put the 6 down low like others have done.

That's what I'm thinking. I've been craving some 4'' mids. Time for a 6 channel amp.
