    whats needed for megasquirt?

Car: 1991 325i...I have searched, but not found much. what is needed to take a semi-stock 325i and install and use megasquirt. I plan on doing intake and heat shield, I have a custom exhaust that I love, potentially m30 afm and 19lb injectors, and a schrick 272 cam and being happy with the car. all this will be going into a 64,000 mile bottom end with a rebuilt head. I know megasquirt eliminates the afm.

Instead of a chip I have heard of megasquirt being used, what is involved costwise to install a simple unit? How hard is it to tune and learn.

My last car was an 02 jetta 1.8t with 260whp and I tuned it mostly myself so I am not completely naive to this stuff!

and once installed, is it as simple as connecting it to your computer and driving around? because I already have a homemade carputer installed and working so that would be cool to just be able to pull the tune up on that

the quickest and easiest way to do this would be to buy a MS2 V3.57 board and the diyautotune.com 55 pin Motronic adapter board (made specifically for E30s). Then you can spend your time learning how to tune instead of troubleshooting a poorly built board.

Of course it costs more, and you learn a little less. if you are handy with soldering, the V3.0 board is exactly the same hardware.

I'll have an extra adapter board for sale pretty soon if anyone is interested.. also have a spare ECU to harvest the connector from.

you will also need a wideband and a couple other sensors (variable TPS and intake temp). I would budget about $800 for everything.

you can tune while driving, but it's a little more complicated than that. Unlike your Jetta, you will have to completely tune everything - from cranking, warmup enrichment, acceleration enrichment, timing, fuel, idle control, etc. etc. You have control over everything which also makes it more challenging. But there is a ton of information on running MS with an E30 since it's been done so many times, so you shouldn't be completely lost in the woods.
