Can I suggest a sticky?? Simple pic of your aftermarket headunit

I know there are many in the same boat, where we care more about the aesthetics of the dash, than the brand or actual specs on the unit.

A simple HVAC area pic will do, more would be a nice, and please include any specifics that would help people making a choice, i.e. mounting pros/cons, "flushness", button colors, general rating.

    Thanks people!

Alpine CDA-9885. Buttons are red at night and blueish-red during the day. Display is oled white. Love the control it gives of my 2 alpine amps and sound quality is good. I have an ipod in and everything is controllable via the HU. also capable of sirius/HD/BT but i dont drive the car enough to warrent a sirius sub. Like the looks and performance but the other e30 is getting a CD43 for the oem goodness.

Installed 5 of those in the last 2 months... 4 came back with motorized face problems. I was going to get that unit too, until all the customers kept coming back :)

Too bad too because the features are awesome at the price point. Hope yours lasts for you. Do post a pic in your car though if you could, I'm still curious what it would look like in an e30.

Nakamichi CD35z is shown in this picture. I'm oldschool and love decks that have a volume knob.

I have a CD45 going into my vert. Since these unit both shared the same wiring connector I was able to swap decks to compare the sound. The audible difference between dual 24 bit DACs and a 1-bit DAC was amazing even with the OEM paper cone speakers.

My only wish is to have the backlighting be the factory amber option instead of green.

I wish it didn't say "Can I suggest a sticky" in the title of this thread. How about you start a new one and ask for a sticky on it, or get the name changed.

            Good idea by the way.

i have this deck too. it is almost perfect. my only complaint is it takes a long time to scroll through a 40gb ipod using the knob. if you go really fast it thinks it is slipping, so it doesnt move at all. you have to turn it smoothly to make progress down the list, which takes time. also, some of the buttons can be counter-intuitive depending on the function, but you get used to it.

True, but I assumed when/if a mod sticky's it, they'll change the title.

Thanks for the response so far.

Here's my contribution. Clarion DXZ785USB. Ugly as hell, but has LOADS of features and great sound clarity. Plus it has customizable colors, not just flat amber... so you can get the BMW amber down exactly.

Nakamichi CD-400, has amber and green... amber isnt more pale than the OEM lighting, but pretty close.

I have the same HU and think it looks better then most HU's out there.

Black with white lettering and Amber Illumination matches the interior pretty nicely.

This HU's finish is almost spot on for our dash. There is no CD slot, it will play SD cards, USB thumb drive, MP3 hook up and it can be connected to an external CD player. The screen can be changed to many different colors. Great price. Only downside is that the volume knob lights up blue.

Dedicated ipod player. Similar to the cda shown above style wise but not nearly as many audio features for tunning sound. The best feature is the direct usb drive. Can scroll through my ipod nearl as fast as the ipod click wheel. Has a lcd screen that displays album art and i can turn off the internal amp.
