I hate aftermarket head units because they don't ever look 100% stock. Since my aftermarket head unit circa 1994 (seriously including 10 disk in the trunk) finally took a crap, I decided it was time to use a few Bestbuy gift cards I had lying around.

        So I bought this:
        $100 JVC KD-R310

And started. I test fitted it in the Hvac just in case my idea didn't work.

Then went about seeing how far the harness would reach.

        So begun the tedious process:

Wrapped it all up with cloth friction tape:

Branched off 3 wires for the stock radio. Constant, switched, and ground.

        Tested everything:

Soldered it up because quick connects like to quick disconnect! :p

Then wrapped it all up and put it in the factory ties in the back of the dash.

        Finished product: (Pics are craptastic)

        Draw backs:

-Well it is in the glove box, so I had to get an extension for the antenna.

-I didn't think about it till after I installed it, but you need the remote to operate it. IR doesn't work through plastic and foam. My old radio had a remote receiver plug for such an install, so I kinda assumed they all did. I mean come on a 1994 model radio had it, why not a brand spanking new one? It's okay, I listen to satellite radio and my ipod most of the time anyway and don't change the channel, so it works, for me. :o

Cruchfield is listing three new Kenwood recievers that have variable color, KDC-448U CD receiver pre order, Excelon KDC-X595 in stock and KDC-BT848U pre-order. All three look the same but have different features. I like the simple look of these Kenwoods and will probably order one.

Glucklich21, get an infrared repeater. It will have a receiver an "eye" about 1/2 " diameter. Mount this in the blank plate beside your hazard switch. You can route the signal wire behind dash and mount onto the unit in glovebox. then your remote will work.

I saw one of those, but wasn't exactly sure how it worked. I figured it needed power somewhere.

And thanks for clearing that up. ;)

I was planning on putting something in the temp sensor vent thing on the hvac panel.

i have this head unit too. premium sound is really good with this head unit. the only thing i dont like about it is the lack of 6 hot keys for radio stations. have to use the remote or scroll through with the wheel. not very fast.

Best Matched Aftermarket E30 Headunit IMO

                            Alright guys,
Here she is. She is a Jensen JDH3632. Almost looks like it belongs in the dash. Since I have a vert, the glossy headunits are just out. Because in the bright sun its like having a mirror down there trying to blind you.

Just PM me if you have any questions about this head-unit!

Alpine XDA-100. Blue does NOT match... At all... I'd like it a whole lot more in red.
