    Driver's Door Lock

The lock on my driver's door will actuate the central locking only if I turn the key to the 3 o'clock "double-lock" position. I can turn the key back and forth no problem. Anybody had this issue?

So, if you turn the key 45 degrees, what happens?

If there is any reluctancy, I'd say a lock cylinder might be the culprit.

Nothing happens at 1:00 or 2:00 position.

the lock cylinder itself doesn't give me any trouble.

The spring on the lock that actuates the regular lock mechanism is screwed. You either need a new lock assembly
Or just put in a key less and forget about the lock cylinder.
