i think you can use a body cap out of an e46, or something. I got mine off a freind, but thats where he said they come from

So say I wanted to remove the antenna and then still have a radio, are there other internal ones?

I've heard people using the rear defroster, but i haven't done it.

This is one of the mods I'm doing on my car right now. Yes there are internal antennas you can use, this is the one I bought (UA200):

As far as plugging the hole, you could either try and find a cap or get a shop to weld a metal plug in that spot (or do it yourself). I'm going to be getting a new paint job in a couple months so I'm just going to have it welded shut.

If you don't want to paint, you might try a plastic plug like this:

              You can order them here:

Just measure the size of the hole and buy the corresponding plug. If you have to, drill the hole out to the next size plug that fits. I would also use a little bit of silicon sealant under it to keep out the water. You could even paint it body color if you wanted.

^^ Good alternative to welding. Personally I like the more finished look by welding it shut BUT this does leave the option open to return to the oem antenna or upgrade to the z3

Exactly. And not everyone wants to have to paint their car afterwards.

Could always get the M3 style antenna...
