Here's an odd one--When I turn on my headlights, the radio stops working.

I recently replaced the old Kenwood stereo in my 1989 E30 with a Joying Single DIN nav unit. I replicated all the connections for the stereo using butt connectors (not my preference, but it's what the PO did).

I've never had reason to drive my car at night, so not sure if this was a preexisting issue.

Any ideas on where to begin troubleshooting?

Does the radio have a dimming feature?

The dimming wire only powers up when you turn on the headlight. You might have wired it up thinking it was a ground.

That is a really good thought. Will pull the radio and double check my wires.
