Open the flap. Trigger the latch with a long screwdriver.

      Ok, here are some pics.

This is the latch in the locked position, rear of car is to the right, this is the driver's side:

Press at the point of the arrow in the direction of the arrow:

      Unlocked:

View more from the angle you will have:

I couldn't get the little lever and spring to show up in the photo but you will be able to see it.

      Good luck,

When you get the lid open, you should take the speaker cover and handle off. my guess is that the cable that goes to that side snapped somewhere. shouldn't be too hard of a fix. the harder it is to put the top down, the less you'll use it!

there are adjusting lugs on the cables - one for each latch. follow the cable from the upside down door handle - and make sure that the latches move their full motion. you MAY be able to adjust the cables to compensate.
a cable may have come unhooked at either end..
the cables are and handle are still available OEM and not very expensive

The new handles have a plastic arm in back where the cable connects. The old ones have a metal arm which you can detach from your broken handle by pushing out the pivot pin and swapping it over. I can't see a plastic arm with 2 cables attached to it lasting very long.
