    Run it semi manual then.

Disconnect the rods that connect to the top, but leave the other motor on. Make sure they are still sync'd. Use the switch to raise the deck lid, get out, fold the top, use the switch to close and lock the deck lid.

Now the boot lid motor has failed for the 2nd time in less than 5 years (I don't drive the car very much). Last time I got a used replacement from a great guy in the yahoo group. My first thought when it failed again was to convert to manual, but was told that would require some welding, so now I'm considering the $650 for a new boot lid motor.

The worst part for me is paying a shop $500 to re-synch the operation every time something goes wrong. I really need to learn how to do that.

To answer the OP's question - I would pay quite a bit for a reliable solution, but the system is very complicated and would require a complete retrofit to be reliable. Seems unrealistic to me.

The shop is bending you over if they charge you $500 to sync the motors. It's super easy. The longest it ever took me was about 10 try's or about 6 minutes.

Thank you!!!!! I saw those instructions a long time ago and they seemed confusing. Now that I've been dealing with the EM top for 10 years, they make a lot more sense.
