    Cabrio Rear Seat Delete

I've hauled a ton of stuff in my back seat including a 40 gal water heater (with the top down, of course), but have never had passengers back there.

I am therefore thinking as part of my eventual interior redo to just remove the rear seat altogether and do something both cool and useful aside from a cage. I just wanted to put this out there for ideas or pics.

I thought about making a subwoofer box that can be bolted down and not easily stolen. Then getting a wind blocker for the back seat so the box is not seen easily by thieves. That would be cool, then I can finally get some sound in the cab.

you can just carpet the rear. Some members have used compressed cardbooard from homedepot or loews and covered it with speaker box fabric in black or grey.

before I went the track route with my car, I thought about this too.

I was always carrying allllllll kind of crap in the back of my vert, with ease, and rarely had passengers back there.

I think the best route is to dress up whats underneath the rear seats/bench, with either carpet or some sort of liner, and just leave the seats in when you're not hauling things. that way when you remove the seats you'll have a nice surface instead of exposed metal. plus you get to retain a stock look.

the main conclusion I came to was this was one of those "I ran out of things to do to my car" mods lol

I won't disagree with that last statement but there is a practical side to given that it is currently almost useless space. Sure a carpeted platform perhaps with some dividers would add utility and if I put a lid on top that flowed in to the deck lid it might even look half decent. Throw in a few storage drawers for spares and the minimum tools we all seem to carry or a bin or 2 for groceries without adding too much weight and we might be on to something interesting.

              Perhaps a beer cooler ?

I'll tell ya after redoing my cracked faded dried leather interior I just want the rear seat in there to look at

After going from a pickup truck DD to this I had visions of making some sort of wood flatbed which could be anchored to the back of the car with the roof down. But it hasn't been an issue

Take a look at the backs of miatas, corvettes etc. Most of them have just a shelf. Maybe you could cut away at the metal behind the rear seat and then put carpet in so the rear seat and trunk meet together. Then get a wind deflector to cover it. Though a lot of that metal is for structural reinforcement..

Just get a mexican blanket and lay that down over a shit condition rear seat.

No worries and you can still haul tons of stuff.

Or, just pull out the seat in 5 minutes with 2 bolts when you actually need to haul stuff...
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

I don't even bolt mine in lol. the bench stays put and the backrest is fine too because of the bracket it slides into. plus the seat belts keep tension on them. thousands of freeway miles and never have had an issue.

taking the seats out was a matter of picking them up and walking them to where I was gonna leave them.

No question it's easy to re & re the back seats. I'm thinking of something more durable that doesn't involve a rear seat at all.
