    Convertible top damage while down

Anyone have any experience with the middle section of the top getting scratched while the top is down?

I think it's inevitable that parts of the top will rub against each other while folded etc. I have noticed some spots on mine that wear more than others, and the same spots on other tops which have developed into holes.

You could do one of two things:

    1. retire the car from DD status and remove the top/stop caring
    2. get some thin towels and try to baby the top for as long as possible

Insert a soft cloth in between the folds of the window so it doesn't abrade against itself.

Thanks. I've been putting a cloth between the window but the scrape is happening on the actually fabric of the top I'm the middle. I guess I could put more towels in between every fold

When I got my top redone a long time ago, the guy who installed it specifically told me not to have the top down for more than 24 hours as it can cause unnecessary wear and creases. The most ideal position is top up, but not under tension meaning the from flap that ties to the windshield part can sit up. If you want to baby it id say thats the way to do it.

^ that's interesting. When I go into a store on a sunny day I put the top back up but don't latch it. I'd been wondering if that would damage the top because it's under less tension but I guess it's actually perfect!

^^Same. But mainly because my interior is black and I would burn my a$$ if I sat down on the seat in shorts. Black interior in a 'vert in the summer is not the greatest thing.

I'm going to look into that pillow. fuzzysux just put a new top on mine and I'm loving the new clear rear window.

I could be reading this incorrectly, but to clarify the ideal position would be this position. Up, but not under tension.

Id find it kind of weird if you were out and parked leaving your top like that, but thats just me lol.

I bought the pillow, $15 for peace of mind isn't too bad. Shipped super fast too. Now I just have to get the motivation to take my hardtop off to put it in. [emoji30]

It's summer, how is your hardtop still even on?!

Also, I think I've read it's better to remove the soft top from the car entirely when the hardtop is up, is this right? I hope not since it seems like way too much work.

Because I have no garage to put it in when I take it off [emoji22]

But I also hope not seeing as its been on for like a year and a half now. That would suck lol

When I bought my vert and the previous owner was showing me how to use the top, he explained how to store it and that he kept a "special towel" in the rear deck to pad the window. I laughed but he was right. Special towel ftw.

OP, also watch when you fold it that the center sides don't get pinched. I've got a small, non leaking tear from not paying attention when folding it.
