    New kid on the block

    Hi all,
First post on this forum....I'm the new owner of this 1991 325ic with 125,000 miles, went to pick it up three weeks ago and drove it back from Little Rock to Memphis with no issues. (Except that it was freaking hot and the A/C wasn't working)

Car seems to be in really good condition, the guy had it since 2002 and gave me over $7000.00 in maintenance records. Timing belt was last done about 6,000 miles ago, in 2011, so that's first on the list, along with a good tune-up and valve adjustment.
Also it needs a catalytic converter and new rear shocks and mounts.

Had the A/C fixed last week, they discovered a leak from the high pressure pipe, so we ordered that and now is cooling great, with the caveat that one of the wheels on the blower motor is damaged and is blowing "half" of the air volume so I would like to get that replaced, he gave me a spare fan. Do I have to remove the whole unit to replace one of the fan wheels?

This is the oldest BMW I have right now, but we currently own a 2002 M3, a 2004 330xi and a 2005 X3. Also a 1989 VW Cabriolet that will be looking for a new owner soon for lack of space here.

Hope to learn a lot from everybody here and contribute on what I can! Here's some pics a have for now!

Welcome to the vert club! I would recommend a strut bar for some added rigidity. I'm also gonna be getting an x-brace for the subframe/frame rails, as I've heard they make a huge difference! Also, is your A/C still on R-12?

Thanks! Great suggestions, extra rigidity is always good on these old verts. Have Neuspeed strut bars on the Cabriolet and it helps a lot.

No, the A/C was retrofit several years ago but wasn't cooling when I purchased the car (talk about a hot ride back from Little Rock!), damn pipe was a dealer only part ($113.00) after BMWCCA discount. Then $220.00 for labor and re-charge. But definitely money well spent!

Looking at how much it would cost to fully convert to r134a, I'm considering just sticking with r12. I still need to replace my blower motor, too. :(

I'll take a look at the records he gave me, but IIRC it was in the $400-500 range for the conversion.

Welcome! I grew up in Memphis and lived there for many years. There is a great BMW mechanic there named John Cox. He used to moonlight for me in his garage, but opened up a shop in OB a few years ago. I can get the name of the shop if interested.
