    Repairing convertible hardtop..

I bought a hardtop about a year ago and last winter I removed the seals and took it apart. Fast forward to now I haven't done any other work on the hardtop. I don't have much time to complete my plan for it as I'm going back to college and just want to get the top back together and ready for storage. My plan was to colour match it to this car and refresh it a bit but don't have the time.

Anyone know the best way to remove the silicone adhesive in the track for the rubber seals? That's the only hold up I'm having in the process. I can't get the silicone out so I cant get the seal back in the track properly. I'm sure I could half ass it because once I get it to my parents place I'll be putting the car cover over it

From what I have read, I think a lot of people tape them off for paint. Not 100% sure though

Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) is one method for getting the silicone to release.

If it's really silicon and not contact cement it usually coming off by rubbing. If the track is too narrow I'll use the thick end of a wood shim so I don't gouge anything. Same applies to contact adhesives although they tend to require more elbow grease.

Isopropyl works but be careful where it goes and you can also buy a citrus based adhesive remover in most auto parts stores. In the end, it's patience and perseverance
