    Oli Drain Plug Confusion

I was doing an oil change on my car. The oil drain plug wont tighten again. Hoping the oil pan isnt stripped. I would get a replacement but its different from the other ones I have seen. It only has one thread on it and is tapered. The oil pan also has a taper to it. Any idea what I can do?

    Uh oh

So the reason it looks different is because the rest of your plug is probably in your pan, its broken. It should have several threads on it, like the ones you see for sale. Hopefully you can remove the rest without too much damage or trouble. May be wise the chase the hole before inserting a new plug, unless your pan is now trashed too.

Yup. Broken plug. PM me if you need another oil pan.

Good news. The rest of plug came out by jamming a screw driver in it. Pan seems fine. Thanks for the help. Its the first bmw Ive owned and didn't know if it was a special kind of plug or not.
