    Convertible top adjustment?

I have searched, and found out how to adjust the windows... but it's more then just that.

The top itself appears to be misadjusted. from the PO, it was replaced about 2yrs ago. It looks like the actual top should be maybe 1/8" forward, as the rear windows do not seal up into the top, and the top does not seal against the windsheild frame correctly.

I was thinking about finding someone local that does convertible tops and have them check it out, but I'd hate to spend money on someone else if it is something I'd be able to do myself. Anyone adjusted one befor?

the top is adjusted with shims on the 4 mounting bolts on each side in the top storing compartment. Chances are the last person to replace the top did not put the shimms back in the way they were supposed to. I would try and just loosen the bolts and move the whole frame till you get it lined up and re-tighten all the bolts. You may get lucky but if not maybe some washers could be used for shims or check out a local salvage yard for some. good luck.

      I keep mine down :)

Seriously, I read the section in the bently regarding this, and its scurrrry.

There's the fore/aft adjustment with the bolts, then there's two mounting points on each side where shims can be added/removed to adjust/tweak the height. That leads to a LOT of adjustment to get it just right.

Mine closes. It leaks like a sieve if I'm ever caught in the rain. Then again, I don't have any front windows installed, so I've accepted that I'm going to get wet no matter what :)

Check to ensure that you have the caps for your centering pins, this might be the issue.

Just installed a new top and the horizontal line are about 1/2 to 3/4 inch off from the horizontal bars. I think it may be manufacturer error or just how they make them it was a gaah 580.00 top.

I cannot find it right now but somewhere on the interwebs, BMW made a video on how to adjust these tops. The hunt is on!

Even though it is 6 years old..

                  this thread saved my sanity..

I replaced my daughters soft top a year ago (frame and all) from a junk yard and installed it with the existing shims..

Door is not closing without window hitting and the top windshield seal wont hold out the water..

                  The videos really help..
