I went out and just ordered the new black carpet from getbmwparts.com. Looks great so far. Matches the e46 convertible floor mats perfectly...

I still think you could modify it to make it work. And for georgE30, e46 front floormats fit well, btw. I have the bmw all-weather ones in my car.

Reviving this thread! ... In the chance anyone has tried since the last posts: Has anyone ever modified the Coupe carpet for the convertible? It looks very possible, especially if you do not order the one with mass backing. The nicer ACC "Essex" is $285 at Rock Auto: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=5982393&cc=1011700&pt=1264&jsn=113 75&optionchoice=1-A1177-0-1
I am currently debating redoing the carpet before selling my car vs. just leave this task to the new owner.

I don't know but I'd bet it will work. The cabrio carpet is probably just a coupe carpet trimmed down on the sides. That's the only difference i have noticed. Since the cuts will be hidden under the large cabrio sill covers it doesn't even have to be pretty.
