Well here is the finished product. Happy with how it turned out.
I welded on a few hooks throughout the rack to secure tie downs and painted the whole frame and carriage bolt heads black. I also stained the wood, and it's a bit darker now.
Then it was time for final assembly!
And here's where the e30 sits currently:

love the boards. hoping to do that with my touring, as the yakima basket case metal basket is far too small for the roof.Comment

That rack looks stellar, not to mention the functionality.

thanks guys, I'm really happy with it. Now it's time to figure out a fairing situation and get some endcaps for the crossbars.
Of course the day I finish/install it, it proceeds to pour rain for 48 hours, so I guess the wood is really being put to the test haha. So far it's held up just fine.Comment

Looks really good but I would just pay close attention to those feet. They seem to be cut and folded steel so I could see it becoming loose over time or fail once a decent amount of weight or even a bike on there with decent wind could cripple it.
Otherwise Thumbs up!!!!Comment

I hate the fact that my rack is now missing a fairing.
Everything looks very disproportionate to me now.
Any suggestions on how to correct the look?
