    This worked as written, just a super improvement!

    mcskibadee1 has a much better method for vent removal. Try it on a junkyard car first if you're uncertain.

        Finally decided to do after having the vent continually droop. Instructions really made this easy; just need to go past the initial apprehension with using the screwdriver.

            For anyone trying this, there's a great YouTube video by Air&Fuel that shows how to rotate the vents downward...and then a little bit more (click!) to pop them out:


            Also, besides the O-rings, mylar washers, etc., I've used anti-sqeak/rattle felt tape. This is the same stuff I've used to tape every (I mean, e-v-e-r-y) place in my dash/console where two plastic surfaces mate. It's ma' fave.
