I found this posting useful. I followed the procedure on my 1990 E30 325i and I received code 1-4-3 "04 Driver's airbag supply line faulty" with the instruction "Check supply line for open or break". Separately, I purchased a reset tool (SIR3) which performed the reset okay (light went out momentarily), but the light came back on after it completed the reset. It appears that I have a problem that causes the SRS alert to come back.

I have electrical diagrams ("1990 BMW 325i Electrical Troubleshooting Manual"), but I am having difficulty identifying what the instruction calls the "supply line". Can someone help me identify where to check "the supply line" for the airbag system? Any other guidance on diagnosing this will be appreciated.

This is not working for a 318is. I can read the codes by doing steps 1-4 (jumper 6 to ground, ignition ON) and then I have to PULL the jumper. Then it starts the code read process. I have 323 and 114, both 1 blink - not present. Had to move the car with the steering wheel/airbag all apart in a hurry, and I thought I had the diag tools to do it.

But now I cannot get the light to reset. I have tried reading codes and reattaching jumper then shutting off, reattaching and pulling the battery, not reattaching and shutting off, reattaching jumper, leaving it on for over a minute, then shutting off.

      Getting frustrated.

Since I'm new here, I cannot post a link (I think) but here is how you do it:

How to reset early airbag light

        This works with SIEMENS 5WK4 027 (65771382905) modules. This module is also found in some E23, E24, E30, E31, E32, E34, and E36

Get a helper if the diag connector is not easy to reach and a stopwatch / accurate timer - cell phone stopwatch function works well, since you have to be rather exact.

Connect SRS diag pin to ground (E30 is pin 6, other models are different).
        Ignition on
        Wait 5 seconds
        Disconnect jumper
        Wait 5 seconds
        Reconnect jumper
        Wait 5 seconds
        Disconnect jumper
        Wait 5 seconds
        Ignition OFF
Ignition ON, start car. SRS light should be ON then go OFF after a few seconds like a normal working system should.
