Did this awhile back. Figured some of you guys may be more into this than spending $100+ on new glass fogs.
Supplies
-Sand paper, 80, 100, 180, 220, 320, 400, 800, 1000, 1500
-Rust-o-leum clear coat
-a buffer
-compound and polish
-Lamin-X (optional)
-some beer
Since BMW used glass lens for their fogs, they often get very pitted up from every day use. It's near impossible to avoid. So this will give many of you a cheap and decent alternative to buying new lens.
Both my fogs were pitted badly but one was cracked and had water damaged so I bought a beat looking used one off another forum member so lets start with this.
Grab your 80 grit and go to town on this, knock off as much grit as you can. Once you've got most of the heavy grit go with the 100 and again sand it for a bit. After that, go with 180 then finally 220. Should leave you around this...
With this you can use the spray on clear and give it a nice layer of clear. This will leave already looking MUCH better.
You could easily leave it here but there are still some deeper pits. Wetsand with 320 till its lookin smooth and re-apply clear.
Gettin there
Repeat but wetsand with 400 this time. Starting to smooth things out here. Repeat if you desire but likely it will be pretty good at this point so wet sand your final coat of clear with 800 then 1000 grit then 1500
Then grab your buffer and compounds and polish. I personally used my Griots random orbital and 3M Perfect It compound and polish.
A couple passes of either should leave you with a pretty surprising finish.
At this point again you could leave it and enjoy your new found clarity in your fogs but being spray clear won't be super durable so I opted for some prolonged protection in the form of yellow Lamin-X. Only cost me like $25.

Total spent? Around $35 bucks.
