To get my painted pin stripes off I used rubbing compound. Took a while, but it worked. A lot of areas were faded, and they came off really easy. The other spots took some elbow grease...but I had them off in about an hour.

Buffing it alone might remove some but more than likely will burn the paint first. You might be able to try some lacquer thinner and rub the stripe and remove it or maybe even some goof off (bought @ home depot/lowes), but will have to buff afterwards as well. Most likely the only way though is by wet sanding, buffing and polishing to get rid of it 100%. I have never had any luck removing painted on stripes any other way...

    Good Luck

Well I don't really want to wet sand, and someone said that oven cleaner didn't work too well. So I was trying to see if anyone had any other input. Like buffing or something.

I would not use the oven cleaner again sorry about the late response. I used it to get the glue off my deck lid when i took my 325 off. I might of left it on to long and i think it went though the clear coat. I would not use it again

The painted pinstripe has worn off in several spots on my e30 like near the door handle where it gets touched alot so the same could be happening to yours. I guess everytime I go to get in the car I will just run my fingers down the length of the pinstripe in hopes of wearing it off.

His car must have dissolved from all that oven cleaner. I'd like to know as well though, some of my pinstriping is coming off where its more like a sticker but there is some spots on it that it really does look like paint so I dont want to only be able to take half of it off.
