DIY: Install Ski pass / bag

Since I recently moved to Maine and work at a ski resort, I figured it was time to get a ski pass to lug around my skis. I purchased one on the forum and installed it today. This is a relatively straightforward install and I took some pictures as i was doing it since I had not found a DIY.

    Basic Steps:

    1. Remove bottom seat cushion and top seat cushion.
    2. Tear cloth mat under seats on perforation.
    3. Cut out panel using dremel tool.
    4. Remove inside trunk trim.
    5. Install ski pass bag.
    6. Put seats back.

    Pictures:

    1. Follow this guide to remove seats: http://e30.bmwdiy.info/rear-seat-removal/

    2. Remove cloth sound deadening material around perforations.

    3. Cut out panel with Dremel and knockout with hammer and awl/screwdriver. I used a normal cutting wheel and hit the small metal tabs near each indentation in the panel. This makes knocking it out a breeze. Simply hammering it out is stupid. Don't do it.

    4. Remove trim panel inside trunk. I marked where the knocked outpanel was with a sharpie, and I will reinstall it after I cut out a hole eventually. There are 4 plastic split screws that hold it in place. Pull out the center pin and remove the part.

    5. Install ski pass/bag from trunk side. Clip into place along bottom then click top in place. It helps to push the top part in from the trunk side.

    6. Reinstall seats. Careful when reinstalling the 10mm bolts for the top seat, they are easy to strip the thread since the screws are so short. Unclip the arm rest before reinstalling.

    Dude,

I dig your charcoal / pencil sketch. Did you do that?

We have 3 resorts ~1.5 hours from the Washington, DC area. Whitetail, Roundtop, and Ski Liberty are in SE PA. Nothing like skiing out west. The wait in the liftline takes longer than the downhill run!

            Ski heaven

I live in Vancouver. We have 3 decent ski hills overlooking the city, Cypress where they ran events for the 2010 Olympics, Grouse and Seymour and just over an hour away is Whistler/Blackcomb where all the downhill and xcountry events were held. One run has over 1 mile of vertical drop. What more could you ask!
Actually, I carry my skis cartop but the pass works well too.

I meant Portland Maine! So you're down in DC? It would be fun to meet up with another e30 guy even though I don't own one yet

                How so?

Use a plastic dead blow hammer, and give it a whack from inside the trunk. The panel comes right out with no adverse effects.

Starting from inside the trunk is the key.

I found it on reddit in the r/E30 subreddit. There's two other sketches one of an M3 and one of the front head on.
