It doesn't wwdge between the race and hub, it grabs onto the groove on the inner race itself.

Very glad to find this DIY. It's my first rear wheel bearing job after many fronts. Halfway through the job with everything out of the trailing arm and I'm getting ready for the install. Reason for the thread resurrection is that I have an FYI and a few questions.

The FYI is that O'Reilly's Auto Parts has a SIR B-90 knockoff kit to rent (Evertough Hub Remover and Installer Kit, #67213). Fairly beefy kit. Same instructions as the SIR kit and what look like the same pieces. Their tool rental is "Buy it" for around $400 and return it in 48 hours for full refund.

So now a question: The knockoff kit works fine for hub and bearing removal but the none of the cups are the right size for the bearing install. The best options in the kit to press the bearing in are either a little too small to make contact with the outer race or a little too big to fully press the bearing into the trailing arm. I am thinking I could use the old bearing and the larger cup for pressing in the last 1/4" inch or so until the new bearing bottoms out, or do I just break down and do a HF freight run to see if the HF kit is a better fit. Reality check welcomed.

Second question: I am installing a new FAG bearing that came in a Schaeffler box (yeah bought this a while ago and they've been sitting in my spares box). Question is do these have any inside/outside orientation? Aside from FAG stamped on one side of the inner race, colors on the dust covers are the same on both sides, and the outer race edges look the same. So doesn't look like there is an orientation but wanted to confirm.

Thanks again for the thread and insights welcomed.

Never mind. I was just overthinking things. Bearing and hub are in.
