Might as well put in a switch panel where the Active check panel is with switch for ignition, fuel, and your fan. But doing away with so much of the factory wiring really makes me consider buying a universal 18 circuit harness from Painless or American Autowire.

Excellent diagram, I like the diode for the latching relay isolation, nice touch. BTW what did you use to make the drawing?
One thing that should be mentioned though in this diagram for people building this is there is no starter relay on these cars. Everything in your diagram would be fine though assuming that there is a proper current rating on the button, and the wiring and wire connection quality is up to par.
Only reason for mentioning is some may opt for that aftermarket "engine start" button, and I know that thing isn't rated for squat. It will work fine though with the addition of an actual starter relay.

Right after I posted my firs post in this thread, I had the idea of using the keypad I posted along with the starter button, but also make it so that the starter button turn off the car after it was started. I came up with this:
The key pad can be set so that after you enter the code, it stays on for a short period, and then turns off. So you would enter the code, have a short time (adjustable depending on the size of a capacitor) to start the car and then the keypad would turn off. From there on, the start button could then be used as a kill button.
Also, this could be hooked up so that you COULD still use the key, but didn't have to.

thats a pretty good idea. but has any one thought of implementing the way the original switch works? that if the car is on , u cant start it again? its nothing to lose sleep over, but then again what is?

fuck that who cares about the lock, if i have a flat bed, do i really care if your steering is lock? this is what i would do....
my alpine remote in my hand....and thats it! no locking steering, no key, no nuthin, with a start button like the one in the alfa romeo i drove in italy....you pushed it again to turn off the car. perfect!
do you guys really think anyones going to steel an e30???? the only person that would steal one, is someone that already owns one!

Keyless start then presents the problem of the steering lock....

No, to turn it off you just take the key out as normal.
I love the ideas everyone is bouncing around,
The thought of jumping in your car and punching in a code, pushing a red button does sound nice.
Keyless start then presents the problem of the steering lock....

Using the OBC for this wouldn't be difficult to do. That and if you want the OEM look, use a power window switch in place of the fader control (non-lighted so you can rub off the arrows) and have it serve as an on-off switch for the car.
I bet I could come up with something that works like this if theres interest:
If you "locked" the car with the OBC, you would get in, push the "on" button, and the CODE prompt would come up. (Think the ACC position without the radio)
You would enter your code, hit SET-RES, and then press and hold the "on" button until the car starts, where you release it. (car stays running)
To shut the car off, you would press the "off" button. (imagine that!)
To reset another code, you would hold the "off" button, and select CODE on the OBC and proceed to set it normally. If you do not set a code, entering the car and pressing "on" will start the car.
I like this setup because it looks OE.

Good spot then, too. I was thinking about suggesting it in my post due to it's size but decided not to. Perhaps I saw it but didn't think I did, giving me the idea of the OBC location.
