After reading and re-reading this thread and about 15 others online, I absolutely cannot find this relay. I have dropped the ABS computer down and out of the way and there is nothing there. I cant even find anything that looks like the relay would plug into. I've checked under the hood and removed the plastic cover on the pump assembly. There are 2 relays there but, from what I understand, those serve different purposes and aren't the relay I'm looking for. I've looked through my Bentley manual. All to no avail... Yes, the car has ABS :)

Can somebody point out where this thing may be that I haven't looked?

    Thanks in advance.

That's most likely an ABS sensor. If its the relay it normally isn't intermittent.

I'm having the same issue with my newly acquired 91 318is, ABS light is on intermittently. It was on for about the first 400 miles of my trip home, then off for about 50 miles, then on again.... possibly the relay?

Bumping an old thread....I have a '91 BMW 325i with my ABS light constantly on and I am having the same issue....cannot find this silver relay under my driver side knee bolster area. Did older models have the relay somewhere else?

    Fuse for ABS Relay

I saw a couple of people hacking this relay. I think on the side of the relay, it says the fuse value is 7 Amps. I seem to remember seeing it somewhere. My relay has the whole internal schematic of the relay on the outside. I just soldered a piece of wire into the relay, where the fuse wire was, and then cut the wire leading into it, and installed a fuse holder with a 7.5 amp fuse. Seems a lot cleaner, than hacking up the relay cover.

The fuse is there to protect things. Im my case the zeener diode in the relay everyone is soldering solid, was bad. It was a direct short. So soldering it solid w/o proper diag is A BAD IDEA!!! The zeener is there to handle the reverse polarity spike of the magnetic feilds in the relays that are actually on the pump. Why they did it this way is beyond me. I soldered in the 2 clamping diodes in the pump relays and pulled the smoke/shorted zeener diode outta the relay everyone is soldering solid and everything is happy. In my opinion this is a correct fix. The way most are doin it gives no circuit protection... just my 2 cents

    Maybe yours is there.

I have my cluster out doing odo gears and thats when I saw that the PO had a piece of black electrical tape hiding the ABS "always on" light...very clever.

The lower panel is also off and I'll be darned if there's a relay in there to "fix" on the 89 cabrio I just bought.

FYI For all doin this- I just looked at the alldata wiring diagram and the wire in the relay that blows is only rated for 8amps. Wire it how you'd like but they put a fuse in there for some reason.

Dude, all the info is on page 3 with pictures. Yes it's the wire inside the relay.

thats the wire inside the relay correct? but if that was blown, wouldn't the abs light be on as soon as you turned the key and not after u drive a few hundred feet?
