DIY - Euro Rear Bulb Carrier for Euro Fog Lights

Rear bulb carrier for Euro Fog Lights ON THE CHEAP!

This write up shows you how to modify your current rear bulb carrier into a euro one that can accommodate the extra bulb for the fog light. I didnt want to spend 50 dollars at the dealership for one so I decided to make it myself.

    Left Euro bulb carrier (part # 63 21 1 386 091) $47 @ the Dealership FUCK THAT!

    Parts:
-Regular Rear bulb carrier(Left or Right) $5 @ PickNPull ($2.50 Labor Day ½ off sale:))

    Tools needed:
    Needle Nose
    Soldering Iron
    Flathead Screwdriver

Left and Right rear bulb carrier off a 325i @ the PnP for $5 dollars..
(I'm using the right carrier as my donor and modifying the left one)

Step 1: Use a Needle Nose and push one of these pins in. Once you push it down enough you should be able to pry it from the back.

Cut the metal piece that's connected to the carrier off and pull the pin all the way out. Then cut off the extra metal around the pin.

Step 2: Now we need another piece off the donor carrier. Use a small flat head screwdriver and pry this off.

Once it's free cut it off the carrier. Then clean it up by cutting off the extra metal.

Now we're ready to modify your carrier into a euro one!

Step 3: Get the bulb carrier from your car and lay it down

Step 4: Locate the metal strip with the hole in the middle and insert the pin that we removed from the donor carrier. Push it all the way down.

Step 5: Now follow that metal strip you inserted the pin into all the way to the end of the carrier. This is where the fog light bulb goes.

Step 6: Now insert that other piece that we removed off the donor carrier into the empty slot. It should just snap in place.

Step 7: Now solder up the pin and bulb connector to the metal strip.

Finished product! $5 dollar euro rear bulb carrier :)

      Very nice.
      How did you wire it?

incorporates a rear fog light into the US bulb carrier tray.

do the us cars already have the wire ran for the rear fogs? if not there is some more work you have to do.

good writeup none the less. i might have to do it.

I'm still waiting on a few more parts before I install it in on my car. I might do another DIY on how to wire it up but the guy in the link above got everything pretty much covered.

I'm planning to install the relay terminals in the fuse box upper left, the way the factory rear fogs work.

Nice lil writeup and method to save useless backing plates from the trash.

You still have to run the wires, relay and switch for them. I would have just bought new ones as they are 30 a side, and Germany has over 700 on the shelf.

This is the end result if you run both sides like I did...

I did this a while ago, but I only did one side. I didn't use a relay due to the extreme low voltage and current, although I may run one when I wire up the other side. Good write-up!

couldnt you just wire the rear fogs into the fronts? that way you dont need to use another relay or switch, and they would come on whenever you have the foglights on.

You really don't want a bright light on on the back of your car unless you need it...get the two-button Euro switch and wire it up right.

so for those that are planning to wire this system into the fuse box, i am looking at the female connectors under the fuse box panel that the relays mate to. i know i should be able to order one, it's just i'm not sure which one. any help would be great.

                            i am referring to these.

(in the green) and i know this is K4, and i would need to put it in K9. found out that fuse number 15 is also the set fuse in the fuse box for the 7.5 fuse, but it needs another prong in there.

any help would be greatly appreciated, i will post more when i have more info.

                            thanks!

Interesting. I would also like to utilize the stock location for the relay on my fuse box. Anyone know how to correctly wire everything up?
