Im wanting to get a chip but no idea where to start, completely stock engine want it to have better throttle response and all that. also should I get bigger injectors
Hehehe. Sounds about right. In all fairness - it might be more like 7 HP.
There's about a dozen different mod I'd do before a chip that will totally transform your car for $250. Such as:
- a suspension rebuild
- e36.z3 rack
- diff swap
- Delete trunk tar (free)
- 2 cans of seafoam and clean your injectors...(that's 2-3 HP right there at least - about $15)
- New plugs, air/fuel filter.
hey george, I already put in 5 oz for 5 gallons of fuel of seafoam. Where else should I put it?
Don't bother putting it in the tank. It's not strong enough to do much more then clean your injectors (and you should be running gas with a injector cleaner like Chevron anyways)
You want to slowly suck it into the manifold via a vacuum line. There is a line on your intake manifold you should be able to pop off, start up the car (let it warm up to above the blue line. It should be warm, but not hot - too hot and you'll burn off the sea foam. Tooo cold, and the sea foam won't work as well). Slowly let it suck an air/seafoam mixture into the manifold - it should be making a slurping sound. You can also bob the tube into the can - that works ok too. If you start to hear knocking, you're add it too fast - slow down - that's bad for your motor. If the engine isn't struggling to keep idle you're adding it too slowly. Suck 1/3 of the can in and then and shut the motor off(don't rev the motor at all). At this point there should be very little smoke. Let it sit for an hour, and do it again. You should be getting some smoke going this time. Again, shut it down, and let it sit. Do it one final time, and then let it sit for 10 mins. Now, go drive the living piss out of your car - red line the car in 1-2-3 gear - speed up, hard on the brakes, and then pull hard - over and over (you're trying to blow the carbon deposits off of the valves and piston tops) . You'll be generating a smoke cloud about the size of a house in one continuous stream trailing behind you. I kid you not - if your e30 could fly, you could go sky writing with the amount of smoke it will make.
Warning - this will get the attention of the police - and by standards will think your car is on fire. It's comical the amount of smoke this will generate. Keep driving hard until all the smoke is gone. (I usually end up on the freeway for a final o-80 pull or two) You'll instantly feel a sharper throttle response - and pick up a few HP.
Hope that helps.
