    Ostrich 2.0 guys... guys?

Well I have done a ton of searching but without much good info on the subject.

Basically, I got a brand new Ostrich 2.0 from a friend in exchange for working on his 951 for him. He was going to use it, but decided to go with Rogue Tuning instead, for future MAF use.

So, whats the low down? Tuning is not an issue for me, I have plenty of experience in that department. My question, is will this work for me, before I waste tons of time on it.

I only need to make a t4 manifold adapter and pick up a set of injectors, then my parts collection will be complete. It is amazing what a little patience will do, I have literally zero dollars into my turbo set up. All acquired from friends with spare parts laying around!

So school me, let me know your experiences if you don't mind!

well, why don't you tell us what you're using it on? :p

I assume you are familliar or will be with TunerPro.

Tunerpro is what I have heard is best.

I think I was reading about some problems with the file decoding in tuner pro however. The threads I did find were not very clear, and kind of scattering between on/off topic.

Basically, i'm just wondering if it will do the job. For now I will be running low boost <10psi, then once I get it tuned in well without popping any gaskets, I will pull the engine apart for a long needed re-ring, and o-ring the block while im in there. Then crank up the t04 and put down some real numbers.

I would prefer to keep the stock motronic, due to my urge to have all this done using pennies to fund. That being said, i'm just really curious if anyone has really seen what the ostrich is capable of. I've got all the time in the world, but the same cannot be said for spending money.

you need to go into more detail.. there's many versions of motronic

what you were probably reading about was the checksum conversion which isn't a big deal on older Motronic DME. something more modern like a siemens MSS54 won't work without the checksum calc and you'd have to write your own code for that.

anyway if you're talking like motronic 1.0 or 1.1/1.3 then there's tons of info and people doing it already. you could talk to ForcedFirebird for some direction.

the ostrich is capable of anything you do in the tune. its just the hardware, such as a replacement chip. You still need to tune using tunerpro.

Well I finally got around to playing with it. Loaded the HakenTT .bin and the car fired up. Scored a LC-1 with analog gauge on ebay for cheap.

Literally, I just need a manifold. Already have feed/return lines, blow off valve, external 38mm wastegate, fuel pump, injectors, intercooler, piping, exhaust.

Once the wideband comes in, I will be tuning NA with the larger injectors, then goes on the turbo.

FF is a legend in his own right, especially with the welding skills but he didnt just magically start tuning E30's from a background in GM tuning.. lets not forget who was one of the people that showed him the ropes of E30 motronic tuning.. yours truly..

these "file decoding" problems in tunerpro are not problems.. they are noob's who download a definition file for the M20 that doesnt match the bin file (the actual contents of the chip) and think its a problem with the tuning software. tunerpro is a no training wheels program.. unless something happens to be out there for your engine thats good/trusted then the definition file is only as good as who made it and you wont be able to tune squat without a definition file in tunerpro for the particular bin file your wanting to tune.

the most commonly used motronic 1.3 M20B25 bin file is from a 173 ECU and has a software (chip) number of 1267355705. i put the best motronic 1.3 definition file for the M20 up in the downloads section of the tunerpro site and it is compatible with this popular 705 bin file. even if your ECU is not a 173 and/or your stock chip is not a 705 the ECU's and chips are interchangeable so long as its still the same version of motronic.. so any motronic 1.3 chip (or file) can be used in any other 1.3 ECU.

there is such a rediculous amount of mis-information out there about the stock ECU's and just what you can actually do with them..

have some stock motronic launch control, for example.

or how about stock motronic with MAF? notice the super crisp response on upshift.

or stock motronic with MAP (never finished ironing out bugs, only tried MAP to prove a point about the stock ECU's).
