What is the purpose of DTM exhaust tips?

I saw a thread on another sight were people were discussing this and most answers were plain stupid. Is there really a purpose or just a German styling cue?

the purpose is to direct exhaust out of DTM race cars ;)

I don't know the answer but I don't think anything done in DTM was just for looks, aside from sponsor decals.

To dump the exhaust in a low pressure area behind the car which would help reduce back pressure further at speed. On street cars it just helps identify douche bags.

Because the E30 M3 had so much power that it actually generated thrust so they angle the exhaust tips up to take advantage of the extra downforce at high rpms...

Makes more noise, people want to feel and hear race cars. VW uses reverse DTM now same hp and tq and no rain in tailpipes, sound is deadened by hitting the ground.

The exhaust was all solid mounted, so in effect it pushed the car down.
