I am assuming you have DEQ in Phoenix? Don't delete your cat. Get a smaller, hi-flow one, and ceramic coat your system from the headers back. Glass packs are cheap, but it depends on the sound you want. Just remember this, an improperly designed exhaust system can cause you to lose a lot of low end power, where a very nicely designed system will only give you a little bit at the top end.

I had dual exhaust with a single glasspack on each pipe. The glasspacks was in the rear where the stock muffler was and i just had some Summit stainless steel tips on them.
EDIT: Now remember this is just my opinion on this setup that i loved. Others found it way over the top. I just like louder cars.
Here's my Firehawk, i think it's quiet myself and i'm going to put a set of cutouts on it here...

I am going to have to agree with JasonC. I am going to replace my shot out muffler with dual glass packs in the stock muffler location. I have a hollowed cat with stock exhaust and it sounds.....echoey. You know what I am talking about if youve ever hollowed a cat. I had to cut it open and weld it back together to do it. I would love to find an X pipe to replace the cat so maybe it would sound better.
