But is a vert exhaust different than a coupe/sedan exhaust? I've never paid attention to vert info so I don't know. I've picked up an 87 I vert that needs a cat back and on a couple of sites it doesn't show muffler options but when I look up non-verts it gives me exhaust options. So am I a do-do head or what?

No different, unless you have a body kit that would block the path you will be fine with any motor specific exhaust.
