Hmm Building a custom Headers-back exhaust:

So i was thinking of picking up an ebay headers next summer and built a custome exhaust setup.

I want the whole setup to coast under 400$...So what is the best options here? magnaflow Muffler?

I don't want to have a stupid loud car, but i want it to sound really good when i step on it..So that would be add a cat, resonator then the muffler?

What is your guy's setup with an aftermaket headers;)

With an ebay header your car will be stupid loud no matter what you do. I have an IE long tube header which is basically the same thin low-grade stainless crap you get off ebay and there is no way to quiet the exhaust down with that header on there.

I am currently running single 2.5'' with a universal cat, resonator, and remus muffler. My car is still alot louder than I wanted it to be.

Shit. Well that sucks then. How about if you use the stock headers then?

i had ebay headers and never got louder at all just heard valves ticking a little louder and also just a little more raspy on top end.. SO i think that was just your muffler that was to loud or resonators blown or cat blown

Why don't you go look in the thread specified?

You're dreaming if you think you can get a custom exhaust done for $400 that is going to sound decent and last more than a year.

Sure you could go ahead and buy an e-bay muffler, e-bay resonator and e-bay headers but your shit will sound like shit for one thing and I would give the made in China piece of shit muffler about 6 months before it blows it's guts out.

You have an M42 right? The m42 comes stock with really well flowing headers, and FYI: I paid 650 dollars to have my custom piping on my s50 done. I provided my own cat back as well. Had to pay for the catalyst, xpipe, piping and labor.

                  Good luck.

So $650 not including the catback?

I paid $1200 (CAD) for a complete system from the headers back, kinda feel raped by it tbh.

Brody from miller posted a dyno run showing custom exhaust bolted on making less power than stock. So basically if you want to be slower, but sound better go for it. If you are going to make a change to your motor (less restrictive exhaust) you need to retune the motor.

in your case I would leave the factory exhaust and just swap the muffler to something like a magna flow, or BB or whatever looks good to you. I run a 6" supertrapp.

But just swapping a muffler in an e30 would really make it loud. i know magnalfow sounds decent though but raspy as fuck/

that sounds about right to me for a quality system. The kids who brag about a full exhaust for $100 basically have a $20 chinese muffler and 1 straight pipe with some horrible crush bends.

I think mine was a bit under that, and I provided all the parts except the tubes and flex pipe.
