For those who have built custom exhaust: Can you eliminate bends?

I am looking at doing a y-pipe off the stock downpipe ( possibly looking at long tube headers in the future) to a 2.5" single inlet / 2.5" single outlet cat. mounted crooked on purpose (see picture) Then eliminating the 30 degree (visual guess) bends so that the exhaust is straighter, easier, and cheaper to build. I havent taken much consideration as for the ups and downs of the piping but I want to know if anyone has taken a bit more of a straight shot with the exhaust pipes between the cat and the muffler and if it can be done cleanly without interference.

You can but you're going to end up with an exhaust that hangs really low and is harder to take apart.

They sell a cat that has a 45 degree inlet. I think its for a subi. Can find them on ebay. Then you'd be able to get away with buying one 45. Or you could just make it easy on yourself and buy one of my systems.
