I need to rework my exhaust.....suggestions please

    Uhhg....im in deep %$*#

My plates arent legit on the e30 - and for me to get them transfered over, i would have to get the car registered with MD. To get registered - i need to get inspected and pass emitions [which i cant]. Im not so worried about the R compounds and other thing as much as i'am about the exhaust system. I have no cat' converter and my exhaust muffler & tip wont pass either. I also dont feel like shelling out $250 in bribes to pass.

Point is - i need a place to get a catylitic [sp?] converter and exhaust with the same tip diameter as stock. The only exhaust i can think of is Ireland Engineering https://secure9.nexternal.com/share....p;CategoryID=3 I dont like the price though and i still would need a cat converter.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

IE's exhaust is probably the cheapest aftermarket one on the market, save for Ansa maybe.

Why not just buy up a whole stock system and put it on? Then resell it after you pass and put the other stuff back on.

Well i think id like a cat converter because the car smells bad sometimes and i heard it helps with MPG. Not sure if thats true though. The Exhuast is amazing at 3k and above - but at 2k its a bitch. I think a quieter exhaust would be better for this anyway. I'm already getting the neighbors to bitch and moan ahahah.

Where do i get a cat converter though? I dont want a stock heavy & rusty one particularly.

Almost every aftermarket muffler company makes high flow cats as well.

I say find a stock setup, toss it on, pass emissions, and throw your current setup back on. :)

Yeah, this doesn't really sound like a hard choice.

I hated working on the e36 exhuast hanger system and alignment....

please tell me the e30's is easier.

They are both easy (E30 or E36) and should be able to be changing in 30 minutes or less.

I agree with others, don't ditch your nice custom amde exhaust. Pick up somebody's stock known to be good exhaust system and swap that on for emisions. How often do you have to do emisions there?

Agreed, it doesn't take much to switch them out when you have a lift though. Like 15 minutes tops.

I had a stock 318 exhaust, dunno if it was thrown out. I'll check later.

                          Thanks!

Does anyone know if adding a cat converter will help out my horrible gas milage?

depends, what numbers are you seeing and how hard are you driving the car?
