Exhaust: Tri-Flo -or- Ireland Stainless Cat-Back?

The rattle-trap stock exhaust on my 87 325iS is about to fall off (or at least sounds like it)...

I was wondering what you guys think -- wanting to spend less than $450, I've narrowed it between a slightly used B&B Tri-Flow and a brand-new Ireland Engineering Stainless Cat-Back.

Has anyone run either of these systems? Has anyone run both, for direct comparison?

The car is destined for the track (SpecE30), but not turbo'd or chipped (spec rules). Noise is not an issue, free-flowing exhaust is. It has to remain street legal for various reasons (lack of a tow vehicle being #1) for at least the next 6-8 months of track days.

It really depends on the sound you are after. IE is one of the quietest aftermarket exhausts available, and Tri-Flow is one of the loudest. There are no gains to be gained in cat-back systems on E30's, so it really just comes down to the sound.

    RISING EDGE

Let's drive fast and have fun.

....if its mainly for track, and you also drive car to track then save your money and do not buy IE or BB....altho IE is a good value.

I run an e 30 on track during DE days and also drive it to tracks, so it cant be racecar loud......but I want it louder than stock by far so I can hear it w/ a helmet on.

Consider stock, or hi flow cat w/ universal muffler like Borla, magna flow etc. W/ stock cat figure 125-150, w/ hi flow cat add another 90-150 or so.....done. I heard an e 3o last week w/ no cat and a 2 into one glass pack....sounds great but too loud for street car. Do stock cat and 2 glass packs, or y pipe into one glass pack.....prolly cost ya under 200 done.
I must pass inspection so I am still unsure which direction Ill take.
I love sitting down and just driving!
