thats a load of crap...when my gasket blew on the bottom of the headers my m42 ran like crap...It couldn't idle right. The m42 seems to be VERY sensative about its backpressure....what have you been shoking?!?! it must have been some good stuff.

You can get exhaaust pipes that flatten out (like down to an inch) for side exit exhaust. If you can find them in the right size, you could make them or have a fab. shop build them for probably pretty cheap. Personally I think this would look great and concidered doing it to my e30 before it decided to be a POS and break every 3 days.
Also as far as the backpressure thing goes, the amount of backpressure needed for an engnine to run smoothly (especially at idle) depends more on cam specs, and breathing ability of the engine. This refers more to the scavenging effect. Also if you lose your gasket anywhere near your oxygen sensor, you are likely to have an engine that doesn't run well as it will destroy the consistency in temperature and gas flow that the oxygen sensor needs to operate correctly.Comment
