Those headers are badass! I just picked up the same pair. I do need to get them ceramic coated before I throw them on though.

I dont know what head work you have planned for your car but I am pulling the motor and stroking it this coming Spring after I buy a home and slapping those sexy ass headers on.

Jordan- know of a good place here in Portland to get that done?

I doubt you got the same ones Andy as these only come ceramic coated. You can't purchase them bare.

TJ they are sold through BavAuto. They have a small local company make them.

I used to think it was Stahl, but I just don't know. They are VERY similar to Stahl's e30 m20 offering through.

My new head is heavily ported intake/exhaust. Alot of bowl work, and smoothing around the guides. Full mirror polished exhaust posts. Completely recontoured chambers, again polished to a mirror shine. Valves are unshrouded as well. This head will lower compression ratio slightly, and should make that much more power.

If I ever did a e36 motor it would have to be a OBDI S52. I can't afford to take my car out of daily driver duty for weeks to do that swap, nor can i afford it right now. As is right now I'm pretty happy with my engine. One of our customers has a stock S50 in his e30 M3. 318i close ratio tranny, and 3.15 diff. From a 5mph roll, to top of 4th he only walks me slightly. My nose even with the rear edge of his rear wheel well. He did have a passenger, but she is a beanpole of a girl so I don't think she counts for much against him.

Your current head is pretty heavily modded too right? This one is just taking it up another level or three?

Lightly modified IMO. This one is heavily modified.

I had a set of those on my old eta(don't ask why), and with an ansa cat-back it was very raspy to say the least. You're definitely going to want a resonator of some kind and/or X-pipe if you don't want rasp. It changed the exhaust note with the ansa cat-back already installed from practically stock sounding to nothing but rasp. This was with the m20b27 y-pipe mid-section that came with them, not the dual m20b25 mid-section so it may sound different.

Car picked up 13lb/ft rwtq in the 2k-3krpm range though.

Well I am going to install them with the straight pipes at first, and see how they sound. I expect (even more so now) they will sound raspy.

In which case I will cut up one of the M50/S50 exhuast sections. They have inline cats/resonators that are just the right size for my application. I can cut the length out of my pipes and weld them in.

                      Say Jordan,

You seem to have experience with different types of exhaust set ups so I was hoping you could give me some feedback. Right now my airflow goes:

                      K&N Panel Filter
                      Stock M20 AFM
                      Stock Throttle Body
                      Extrude Hone Intake manifold
                      Stock M20 Cylinder Head
                      Ceramic coated Stock exhaust manifolds
                      Stock downpipes/cat converter/resonator setup
                      Ireland Engineering Cat Back Exhaust

Some mods I've read about here and thought about are

                      MAF 027
                      Big Bore Throttle Body
                      Extrude Hone the exhaust manifold

I'd only be interested in doing these if they'll provide noticeable performance or economy gains. My biggest concern is that any or all of these three mods would decrease my low end torque. I live in los angeles and do a lot of stop and go driving. Any mod that costs me low end torque would definetly take away the fun of driving my car.

What are your thoughts on these mods.

                      Thanks,

                      Jon

Stahl headers are really nice but they are a no go on even a slightly lowered car.I took mine off and gave to my brother. They just hang to low as you can see in that stock photo jordan posted. The Bavauto headers seem to be a much better design as far as ground clearence issues go.

i knwo i'm resurecting an old thread but i'm iced in and bored.....well with stock manifolds on a lowered car the oilpan use to be the lowest part of the car but with the bavauto headers installed, that became the lowest part of the car, so be extra careful now if you have these on your car, mainly over speed bumps.

The oil pan still sits in a spot that is much more vulnerable than where the headers would be.

yeah tha'ts true, but with the problem of the bavauto headers is teh speed bumps i have to take it super slow, if theres no way to aviod it. Oil pan and speed bumps i dont have a problem with, and i've been fortunate enough to have not encountered anything that would bust my oil pan on the highway...knock on wood

I think anybody with a lowered E30 takes speed bumps super slow anyways.
