I learned something about mufflers today

So my car was a bit loud, not super loud or annoyingly loud but it was loud especially after 2000 rpm and shifting into second. It also idled a little harshly and was a bit annoying.

I went to a muffler shop swapped out my "super turbo" and now have a generic muffler.

the car runs alot smoother and idles way better. I can hear the engine instead of the exhaust.

    Super Turbo sux!

Any muffler with "turbo" in the name is trying too hard.

        Turbos make good mufflers.

Turbo mufflers are suppose to be louder... And have more of a free flow to them. Plus they have been around since the 60s.

I'm a little surprised it fixed your idle. I also have a shaky idle, and I know my muffler has a hole in it. Wonder if it's related?

Mine has a small hole in it and sounds kind of 'turbo-y', does that count? Because race car.

Yeah, I mean the engine idles fine but I guess the AKG engine mounts (and some giant AKG black square thing) keep it tight against the car. Before muffler it would shake my mirrors when I was idling now it's like a normal car.

the muffler was $55 installed and they even put back my oblong exhaust tip. The whole thing took 15 minutes. Money well spent. Now i'm stealth ^-^.

Sure you just didn't choke your car with a cheap muffler now..?

I was exaggerating, my muffler is just louder than it should be.

Seems to be "Just as fast". without the obnoxious droning. It's probably running smoother because somethign was wrong with the old muffler.

At idle my mirrors were shaking before I relplaced the muffler.

How does a muffler change the idle?

Well, I don't know maybe it has something to do with giving the engine the proper back pressure. All I know is my car used to feel like one of those massage chairs at idle and now it feels alot smoother.

Previously i'd shift into second and the car would get really loud in the lower rpm range and get quieter as I climbed up. Now it's all as it should be and at highway speed no more thrum.

i'm not expert in the tecnical aspects

Now if only these stink'n Harley's were quieter. How is a cop gonna pull over a guy with a loud car exhaust when a Harely is Deafening?

Oh i didnt get pulled over.. I was just preventing it.
