    Borla ProXS 40665 on M42???

Anybody know if this is quiet?

My "magnaflow" (it isn't stamped magnaflow anywhere but I bought the car with it so I don't know if it's real, that's according to the P.O.) is really getting to me... It's so loud on the freeway its not fun anymore... I love it on a curvy road and downshifting but my commute to school is ~100 freeway miles a day... I push in the clutch and drop to idle while rolling and it goes almost silent. (comparatively speaking!)

I'm looking at a Borla ProXS # 40665 and sticking a QTP cutout in front of it for the curvy roads and setting off random car alarms

I would like it to be near stock quiet with the cutout closed, any suggestions for a muffler that would be better???

2:20 Edit: I said screw it and ordered one on amazon... We shall see I suppose! Next weekend presumably I will have it on, I didn't order the cutout, I'll see how it is on the backroads and freeway before I order one of those...

You can also add a resonator to quiet things down a bit. I dont think its its a Magnaflow if its not labeled. Iv had a few different Magnaflow set ups and depending on how you set them up you can get different levels of sound and volume from the same muffler.
Hope the new one works out!

Sorry, forgot about this thread. I did it, it is quieter but nowhere near stock quiet. I had a funny observation, when I cut the one that was there off, (obviously I had to drive it with no muffler) and it seemed to be the same volume with no muffler at cruise as the old one! It was stupid loud when on the gas but the m42 must just exhibit the drone at cruise rpms (410 rear) because it still does it with the new one.

The borla seems to have taken the edge off the loudness, and it sounds deeper and less "tinny." I even think it is slightly faster/ couple more horses.

I think I need to get taller gears to get out of the drone zone of the revs because it droned loudly with the old, nothing, and somewhat quieter with the new...

I do have a resonator in the middle, don't know if it helps at all...

I am going to pick up a borla xs when I do exhaust on my es. Still going to have a cat and res too. But I kinda want it to be designed similar to the 325i exhaust. Instead of down pipe - 1 then out the exhaust. Idk if it helps anything if not I would just go to a single pipe back.
