    Need to duplicate E36 M3 (96-99) midpipe

    Looking for suggestions:

After 3 different exhaust setups on my 24V swapped 325ic, either from being too quiet or too loud, I think I am finally settling on something that suits my tastes...namely a UUC RSC36 cat-back system.

For reference I've had the following:

    Remus Cat-back from an E36 w/M20 mid-section (cat/resonator combo)
    AA Rep Cat-back from an E36 w/M20 mid-section (cat/resonator combo)
AA Rep - straight midpipes (no cat or resonator, just the AA rep muffler)

The latter setup being the loudest and most obnoxious (sounds great at 20% throttle up to 3500RPM, then akin to a Rotary with straight pipes after that).

The weakest link I know is the M20 mid-section so I am trying to duplicate the E36 mid-section as best as possible.

Short of BUYING an E36 cat, my car is OBD1, what do you guys suggest as a E36 cat replacement...maybe a high-flow cat from Magnaflow?

Interesting question. I would also like to know what you find, although I have different motives. I have the UUC RSC36 exhaust on my 328 vert, initially I had it with a stock motor, then with AAstage 2 supercharger, and recently I installed the raceland euro SS rep headers and built a 2.25" dual midsection with vibrant resonators and an x pipe (cat delete). Bottom line, its way too loud and obnoxious, probably similar to your aa rep straight midpipes.

The car sounded best with the oem headers and midsection and the UUC exhaust and AA supercharger. It was throaty but subtle enough in low rpms but had a terrific almost ferrari sound when you went wot. No drone.

So I am looking to redo the midsection but I'd like to mimick the oem setup (albeit with 2.25" pipes). I have also been thinking 2 high flow cats and a magnaflow resonated/muffled x-pipe would be the ticket.

I will keep an eye on this thread... I hope you figure out something nice. If I get there first, I'll post my results.

      I splurged...

      I ended up picking up a used OBD2 E36 M3 midsection + the UUC RSC36...
THE SOUND IS PERFECT (at least to me)

I'm running stock E36 M3 headers, stock midpipe and the UUC and its the perfect combination of loud when you want and no drone while cruising highway speeds. The sound alone makes you want to HOON and you don't feel bad about driving a unmuffled, non-catted or resonated car.

OHHHHHHH YEAAA good choice. IMO that UUC RSC36 exhaust is the only one worth its price.

Darn, I was hoping you would have built something custom so I might have some insight but oh well. I think I will just build a midsection with the cats and resonated x pipe.... theres no way it could be louder than what I am running now.

I know this is an old thread, but do you have pics of your stock E36 mid section? I would love to see what it looks like and how it fits.

          Thanks!

I ditched the oem midsection idea when I saw how poorly it fit. Curious how yours ended up.

I need to know what it looks like!!
working on getting my midsection completed soon.

Sh3rpk!ng, did you attempt to chop it up or use the enitre thing? or were the cats too big either way?

I just kind propped the midsection + exhaust up under the car to gauge how well/if it would fit. In my opinion the fitment was excessively poor and it didn't make sense to hack up a perfectly good midsection + muffler for it to finally "fit" poorly and weigh a ton and not sound great or offer any "performance"

My solution was to visit a junkyard to get the headers -> midsection joint flanges and then build a whole 2.5" exhaust from scratch. I have a bunch of photos in my build thread.

FWIW that uuc corsa rsc36 exhaust is the best sounding catback for the s52 period. I have one on my e36 and I'll never get rid of it. I'll also probably do an exhaust v2 for my car using the corsa catback.
